KARACHI — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has cautioned residents of Karachi about rising heat, scattered thunderstorms, and the possible impact of a cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal that is now moving toward the Arabian Sea.
According to the PMD, Karachi started the day under hot and humid conditions after sea breezes stalled, leaving the city sweltering. While light showers are possible in the evening, humidity levels are expected to climb further, intensifying the heat. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 36°C and 38°C, though the current reading of 29°C is already being felt as high as 34°C due to moisture in the air. Winds are presently blowing from the northeast at about 7 kilometers per hour.
Meteorologists predict light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, for Karachi tomorrow. Meanwhile, heavy showers with strong winds are expected across several districts, including Umarkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sujawal, Jamshoro, and Matiari over the next two days.
The PMD further warned that a developing cyclone in the Bay of Bengal is tracking westward toward Indian Gujarat before entering the Arabian Sea. Its impact is likely to extend to Pakistan’s southeastern coastline, with lower Sindh and Karachi among the areas most at risk of stormy weather in the days ahead.
