ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has welcomed Washington’s move to designate the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and its offshoot, the Majeed Brigade, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, marking a significant step in international counterterrorism cooperation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Pakistan had already banned the Majeed Brigade on July 18, 2024, under its domestic anti-terror laws. The ministry underscored that both the BLA and Majeed Brigade have been involved in multiple deadly attacks inside Pakistan, including the Jaffer Express bombing and the Khuzdar bus attack — incidents that claimed numerous innocent lives.
“Pakistan stands as a steadfast bulwark against terrorism,” the Foreign Office said, adding that the country’s sacrifices have yielded critical counterterrorism gains not just for national security but also for regional stability and global safety.
The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and eradicating terrorism in all its forms. Islamabad also vowed to continue close cooperation with the international community to confront this shared threat.
