Bugti: Timely Completion of Development Projects is Top Priority

Quetta — Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti emphasized on Tuesday that the timely execution of development initiatives for public welfare remains the foremost priority of his administration.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Quetta to assess departmental performance and project progress, Bugti stressed the need to break free from bureaucratic inefficiencies, outdated systems, and careless attitudes. He called for aligning government operations with modern standards of governance.

He made it clear that incompetence, corruption, and underperformance will not be tolerated. All institutions are expected to operate strictly on merit and be held accountable.

During the briefing, the Chief Secretary reported that 3,049 schools had been made functional in the past year, enrolling over 234,000 children. More than 10,000 teachers were hired, and nearly 18,000 received training. The elimination of 5,000 redundant posts saved costs.

Additionally, 14,131 out-of-school children were re-enrolled through efforts by the Social Welfare Department. For the first time in the province, a social media policy was introduced and a Journalist Endowment Fund established.

A plan is underway to turn the historic Hinglaj Mata Temple into a premier tourist site. Bugti ordered all secretaries to personally visit remote areas for inspection and directed that approvals for small-scale projects be finalized by August 15.

He demanded faster implementation of development works so the public can see results soon. Taking note of student complaints under the Labour and Manpower Department in Islamabad, Bugti asked for a detailed report on the Youth Skills Development Program, which he called vital for the province’s future.

He also urged semi-autonomous bodies, including WASA, to build self-sustaining revenue systems and address Quetta’s water crisis through long-term solutions.

Reaffirming a zero-tolerance stance on drugs, Bugti ordered a crackdown on drug networks across Balochistan. He pushed for more rehab centers and tasked the Social Welfare Department with ensuring no addicts remain on the streets within three months.

Bugti expressed frustration with government inefficiency and declared that performance would now be the only standard for progress. Transparency, quality, and on-time delivery, he said, are crucial for the province’s success.

He concluded by calling on departments to improve coordination, remove bottlenecks, and ensure visible, timely results for the public.
