KARACHI: In a landmark step towards women’s mobility and empowerment, Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the provincial government will soon distribute Pakistan’s first electric pink scooters exclusively for women.
According to Memon, the initiative has already drawn a remarkable response, with nearly 10,000 women applying in the very first phase. Out of these, around 150 applicants already possess valid motorcycle driving licenses, while the remaining have applied for learning permits.
The project is being launched in collaboration with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), which will play a key role in training new riders. KMC has committed to providing motorcycle training and covering the fees for women’s driving licenses a move aimed at easing financial hurdles and encouraging broader participation.
Transparent Distribution
Memon clarified that if the number of applicants surpasses the 1,000 available scooters, the government will allocate them through a balloting process. To ensure transparency, a special committee including representatives from the Excise, Transport, and Finance departments, as well as members of the media will oversee the balloting.
How to Apply
Women interested in applying can do so by visiting the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s website. The application process is simple:
