ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck on Thursday night, with tremors felt in the twin cities and across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The quake occurred at 9:56pm, at a depth of 111 km, with its epicenter in the Hindu Kush region. Reports came in from Peshawar, Mansehra, Hangu, Abbottabad, Swat, Attock, Malakand, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

Punjab PDMA said no damage had yet been reported but confirmed all districts were on alert, with emergency control rooms active 24/7. Citizens were asked to report damage on PDMA’s helpline 1129.

This tremor followed earlier quakes this week, including a 5.4-magnitude quake in southeastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, felt in several Pakistani cities.
