In a historic move for Pakistan’s education sector, the Sindh Education Department has successfully concluded the country’s largest-ever teacher recruitment drive, hiring more than 93,000 educators for government schools across the province.
Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, while addressing a press conference, congratulated the newly appointed teachers and emphasized the government’s commitment to merit-based hiring. “This is not just a milestone for Sindh, but for Pakistan. We hope these teachers will fulfill their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication,” he said.
According to official figures, a total of 93,118 offer letters have been issued—65,147 for Primary School Teachers (PSTs) and 27,701 for Junior Elementary School Teachers (JESTs). The recruitment process was carried out transparently through third-party testing, ensuring appointments were made solely on merit.
One of the standout achievements of this recruitment drive is the inclusion of 31,075 women teachers, a step the minister described as “a significant contribution toward women’s empowerment in the province.” Additionally, the government has appointed 1,330 differently-abled individuals and 2,100 candidates from minority communities.
Breaking down the numbers division-wise:
- Karachi Division: 7,444 PSTs, 5,643 JESTs
- Hyderabad: 17,075 PSTs, 6,904 JESTs
- Sukkur: 11,619 PSTs, 4,183 JESTs
- Larkana: 11,145 PSTs, 4,034 JESTs
- Mirpurkhas: 7,513 PSTs, 2,916 JESTs
- Shaheed Benazirabad: 10,261 PSTs, 4,020 JESTs
As a result of these appointments, the student-teacher ratio across Sindh has improved to 34.59—a positive development expected to further improve with future hiring phases.
Minister Shah expressed particular pride in the diversity and qualifications of the new recruits. “Among the successful candidates, we have PhD holders, engineers, and highly educated individuals from various walks of life,” he noted. “It’s heartening to see that young people from underserved and rural areas have earned this opportunity on merit. In one remarkable case, four daughters from the same family cleared the test together—a true testament to hard work and perseverance.”
He added that the presence of such qualified and passionate educators is already making an impact, with improved school performance and rising student enrollment figures being reported in several districts.
This recruitment drive marks a new chapter for public education in Sindh—one that promises hope, inclusivity, and a renewed focus on quality learning for all.
