Lahore, August 28, 2025 – The Sikh community has strongly condemned India’s release of water towards Kartarpur, describing it as an act of “water aggression” against their holy site.
In a video statement, Kalvinder Singh Cheema, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, criticized India for what he called a deliberate attempt to damage the sanctity of Sikh shrines. He said the so-called “Operation Sindoor” had once again exposed India’s hostility towards the Sikh faith.
“India has proved itself an enemy of Sikhs. The Pakistan Army successfully foiled its designs during Operation Sindoor, but the aggression has now taken another form,” Cheema remarked. He alleged that following the failed operation, Sikh gurdwaras in Indian Punjab also came under attack, with Pakistan being wrongly blamed.
According to Cheema, India’s latest move has led to flooding inside the Guru Nanak Gurdwara at Kartarpur, where water rose to nearly five feet inside a sacred room. “This is nothing short of desecration,” he said.
Drawing parallels with past incidents, he recalled the Indian Army’s 1984 assault on Darbar Sahib, the bombing of Kartarpur in 1971, and drone attacks on Nankana Sahib. “Now, they have chosen to attack us with water,” he added.
The Sikh leader accused India of deliberately targeting religious sites despite being fully aware of their location and significance. He stressed that such repeated acts of aggression have strengthened the community’s resolve to pursue the cause of Khalistan’s independence.
“This is not our country, and we are not Indians. We are being attacked again and again. The time has come for us to step up efforts for Khalistan,” Cheema declared.
