Karachi, August 16, 2025: Residents of Karachi are grappling with intense heat as sea breezes remain partially suspended, creating a humid and stifling atmosphere across the city.
According to the Meteorological Department, the city is experiencing clear skies with only partial relief from the usual coastal winds. The westward winds are blowing at approximately 9 kilometers per hour, contributing to the oppressive humidity. Current readings show the humidity level at 78 percent, with temperatures already touching 33°C and expected to climb between 34°C and 36°C later in the day. Light drizzle is also forecasted in the evening and overnight, adding to the discomfort.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in northern and northeastern regions of Pakistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan have seen widespread flooding, cloudbursts, and lightning strikes, resulting in numerous casualties and missing persons.
Tragedy struck yesterday when a government helicopter conducting relief operations in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, crashed, claiming the lives of five people, including two pilots. Floodwaters have destroyed dozens of homes, sweeping away children, women, and students. Many villages have been devastated, while bridges and roads lie in ruins.
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of further rainfall in several areas, including Buner, Bajaur, Battagram, and Mansehra. These districts have been officially declared disaster-hit, and ongoing relief operations are underway to assist affected communities.
