Karachi and several other parts of Sindh are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms between July 17 and July 21, as a fresh monsoon system moves into the region.
According to the Chief Meteorologist, it is still too early to determine whether the system will strengthen enough to trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas. Much depends on how much moisture it manages to draw in from the Arabian Sea.
Moist air has already begun entering the southern parts of the country and is expected to intensify starting July 13. In addition, a fresh western disturbance is likely to move into Pakistan by the evening of the same day, potentially enhancing rainfall activity.
As a result, various districts across Sindh — including Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Hyderabad — could experience bouts of rain and thunderstorms from July 15 to 17, with occasional dry spells in between.
Rural areas aren’t likely to be spared either. Rainfall is expected in districts such as Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, and Badin, while heavier showers, possibly accompanied by intense thunder and wind, may hit Tharparkar and Mithi.
Authorities have urged residents, especially those living in flood-prone or low-lying areas, to stay alert and keep an eye on updated weather advisories.
