KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially severed ties with 32 members of the Karachi City Council, declaring that they no longer represent the party. The announcement comes amid growing tensions within the party’s Karachi chapter over alleged violations of party discipline.
According to details, PTI Karachi General Secretary Arsalan Khalid has sent a formal letter to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, informing him that the basic membership of these 32 members—who were previously elected with PTI’s backing—has been revoked.
The letter makes it clear that these individuals have no association with PTI anymore and should not be recognized as representatives of the party. It further requests the public and relevant authorities to consider the 32 as independent members within the City Council moving forward.
Party sources say the decision was taken after repeated instances of insubordination and disregard for party directives. PTI Karachi leadership emphasized that maintaining organizational discipline is essential to the party’s integrity and image.
This development highlights the ongoing internal challenges PTI faces at the local government level in Karachi, as the party continues efforts to reorganize and reinforce loyalty among its ranks.
