ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of rain and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds across various parts of the country starting Monday (today), urging citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the wet spell.
According to the Met Office, Islamabad, parts of Sindh, southern Punjab, Kashmir, northeastern and southern Balochistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms over the coming days.
The PMD reported that hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in most areas during the past 24 hours. However, heavy downpours are expected in parts of southern Sindh, eastern Balochistan, and Kashmir, while the rest of the country will continue to experience hot and humid weather.
In Islamabad and its adjoining areas, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy and humid, with chances of rain particularly during nighttime. Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also remain hot and humid, though scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram, and Waziristan.
Punjab will witness partly cloudy and humid conditions overall. However, areas including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan may receive rainfall and thunderstorms. Rain accompanied by thunderstorm activity is also expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, and surrounding regions.
In Sindh, rain with thunderstorms is forecast for Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Umerkot, Chhachhro, Padidan, Khairpur, Karachi, Thatta, Ghotki, Chhor, Sukkur, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Dadu, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Some areas may experience heavy downpours.
Meanwhile, Balochistan will remain largely hot and humid, though Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, Musakhel, Killa Saifullah, Loralai, Dera Bugti, Nasirabad, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, and Lasbela are likely to receive rain with thunderstorms.
For Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the PMD has predicted partly cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms. Isolated areas in Kashmir may receive heavy rainfall.
The Met Office has urged citizens to stay alert during thunderstorm activity, remain indoors where possible, and avoid unnecessary travel in regions expecting heavy rainfall and strong winds to ensure their safety.
