Shehbaz Inaugurates Upgraded Rail Services, Applauds Military Prowess
LAHORE / ISLAMABAD – July 30, 2025:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif didn’t mince words on Tuesday, stating that every time former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks of halting a Pakistan-India war, it unsettles Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Trump has repeatedly said the U.S. stopped a war between Pakistan and India. Each time he says it, Modi’s old wounds are reopened,” Shehbaz remarked while inaugurating the newly revamped Pak Business Express and upgraded facilities at Lahore Railway Station.
Taking a moment to commend the nation’s military, the Prime Minister described the brief but intense four-day conflict with India as “extremely dangerous” — yet one that showcased Pakistan’s strategic and technological edge.
“Our armed forces displayed remarkable strength,” he said. “The Air Force, through its own innovation, and the Army, with its precise deployment of Al Fatah missiles, proved that Pakistan is not solely reliant on nuclear deterrence. We’ve shattered that myth.”
He went on to assert that Pakistan’s nuclear capability remains a key pillar of national security. “With such a defense backbone, no enemy dares to cast an evil eye on our homeland.”
CPEC Advancing, U.S. Relations Being Rebuilt
Shehbaz Sharif also touched on Pakistan’s growing partnership with China, noting that both nations were now entering a more dynamic phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “The coordination on the second phase of CPEC is stronger than ever,” he said. “Our relationship with China continues to be a cornerstone of regional stability and progress.”
At the same time, the Prime Minister noted that Pakistan was making serious efforts to mend and enhance its relations with the United States, indicating a balanced foreign policy approach.
A Modern Face for Pakistan Railways
During his speech at the Lahore Railway Station, Shehbaz expressed delight at the transformation of the historic facility. “It’s heartening to see such a positive change,” he said. “From courteous staff and upgraded waiting lounges to CIP areas and a European-style sleeper and dining experience — this is the kind of service the public deserves.”
Energy Sector Sees Rare Breakthrough
Later in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz chaired a Cabinet Committee on Energy meeting, where he hailed a significant turnaround in the performance of the country’s power distribution companies (Discos).
“For the first time in decades, we’re seeing a real reduction in losses. This is a positive signal for our energy sector and will make privatization much more viable,” he said.
A briefing by the Power Division revealed a Rs193 billion reduction in Discos’ losses and a total sector-wide financial improvement of Rs242 billion. The Prime Minister termed this shift a “turning point” for Pakistan’s energy future.
Stronger Ties with Kyrgyzstan
Earlier in the day, Shehbaz reaffirmed the government’s dedication to implementing agreements reached with the Kyrgyz Republic under the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) framework. He stressed the need for timely execution to convert these understandings into concrete results.
The reaffirmation came during a meeting with Kyrgyz Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Edil Baisalov, who is leading a high-level delegation visiting Pakistan.
