ISLAMABAD – July 9, 2025:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday welcomed the sharp rise in remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis during the 2024–25 fiscal year, calling it a powerful vote of confidence in the country’s economy.
In an official statement, the premier noted that remittance inflows reached an all-time high of $38.3 billion — a significant jump of $8 billion compared to the previous fiscal year. The 26.6% increase, he said, reflects both the resilience of Pakistani expatriates and the improving economic outlook under his government.
“This historic inflow is not just a number — it’s a testament to the trust our overseas citizens have placed in the country’s financial stability,” the Prime Minister remarked. “It’s also a clear sign that our economic direction is correct and our policies are producing tangible results.”
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the global Pakistani diaspora, acknowledging their crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s economy through consistent support and timely financial contributions.
He emphasized that recent gains — including increased exports, controlled inflation, and currency stability — are part of a broader economic recovery plan aimed at transitioning from stability to sustainable growth.
“We are now focused on building long-term, inclusive growth. These remittances play a central role in that effort,” he said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to creating an environment where overseas Pakistanis can continue to contribute with confidence.
The surge in remittances comes at a time when the government is also eyeing foreign investment and public-private partnerships to fuel development in key sectors, including infrastructure, energy, and agriculture.
