Petrol Prices Likely to Drop by Up to Rs10 from August 1

ISLAMABAD – July 31, 2025

Consumers across Pakistan may soon get some much-needed relief at the fuel pump, as petrol prices are expected to fall by up to Rs9.7 per litre starting August 1, thanks to a dip in global oil prices.

According to official sources, a decline in international crude rates has pushed the ex-refinery price of petrol down by Rs9.7 per litre. Diesel prices have also seen a marginal decrease of Rs3.73 per litre. The global price of crude has fallen from $75.27 to $73.19 per barrel, while the premium on petroleum products has dropped from $9.61 to $6.74 per barrel.

These changes have also impacted customs duties, with charges per litre slipping from Rs15.33 to Rs14.29. As a result, the ex-refinery price of petrol has come down from Rs168.73 to Rs159.66 per litre.

Officials added that further adjustments could still be made depending on fluctuations in the exchange rate. The final pricing summary will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance by the end of the day today (July 31). The ministry, however, is expected to weigh the government’s revenue targets before approving any reduction.

The official notification of revised fuel prices is expected later tonight. But experts caution that the public’s relief could be short-lived — if the government opts to increase the petroleum levy to meet fiscal goals, it may offset part of the expected price cut.
