Pakistan Urges Immediate Ceasefire and Israeli Withdrawal at UN Security Council

UNITED NATIONS – August 6, 2025:

Pakistan has issued a strong appeal to the international community, calling for urgent and decisive action to halt what it described as Israel’s “brutal and illegal war” in Gaza. The statement was made during a UN Security Council (UNSC) briefing on the situation in the Middle East, particularly the Question of Palestine.

Speaking at the session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, demanded an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, along with the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of all hostages, and unhindered humanitarian access into the besieged Gaza Strip.

Ambassador Ahmad welcomed the recent High-Level Conference on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian conflict and the revival of the Two-State Solution but stressed that symbolic gestures are not enough.

“This conference must now be followed by meaningful, coordinated international steps,” he said, “to pave the way for lasting peace and justice in the region.”

He reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance that a durable solution to the Middle East crisis hinges on the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and contiguous Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.

Growing Humanitarian Crisis

Meanwhile, the humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to escalate. The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) issued a heartbreaking update, revealing that an average of 28 children — roughly the size of a school classroom are being killed every day in Gaza.

“Death by bombardments. Death by malnutrition and starvation. Death by lack of aid and vital services,” read a post by UNICEF on X (formerly Twitter). The agency called the situation catastrophic, warning that children urgently need food, clean water, medical care, and above all a ceasefire.

UNICEF stressed that without immediate action, the death toll will continue to climb in what is already one of the world’s most dire humanitarian emergencies.
