ISLAMABAD – August 8, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provisionally suspended cricketer Haider Ali after being formally notified of an ongoing criminal investigation against him by Greater Manchester Police in the United Kingdom.
The PCB said on Thursday that the inquiry pertains to an incident allegedly occurring during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England. However, the board refrained from disclosing any specific details surrounding the case, citing the sensitivity of the legal proceedings.
“In accordance with our responsibility to safeguard the rights and well-being of all players, the PCB has ensured that Haider Ali has been provided with appropriate legal support,” a board spokesperson said. “We respect the legal framework of the United Kingdom and believe it is essential to allow the investigation to take its due course.”
Pending the outcome of the case, Haider Ali will remain under provisional suspension, effective immediately. The cricket board further noted that it would consider taking disciplinary action under its Code of Conduct once the legal process concludes and the full facts are established.
The PCB emphasized that it would not be issuing any further comments at this stage, in order to avoid interfering with the ongoing investigation.
Haider Ali, 24, is an aggressive right-handed batter who made his international debut in 2020. While his appearances in ODIs have been limited to just two matches, he has featured in 35 T20 Internationals for Pakistan, amassing 505 runs at an average of 17.41, including three half-centuries. Across domestic and franchise T20 cricket, he has notched up over 3,000 runs and 17 fifties, playing for teams such as Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
His suspension is a significant blow to the young cricketer’s career, as questions now arise about his future with the national side, pending the outcome of legal proceedings abroad.
