Pakistan Set to Join ASEAN Forum as Ishaq Dar Heads to Malaysia for Key Regional Talks

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan will reaffirm its commitment to regional peace and multilateral diplomacy as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departs for Malaysia to attend the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting, slated for July 11 in Kuala Lumpur.

The high-level gathering will bring together foreign ministers and senior officials from 27 ARF member states, alongside the ASEAN Secretary-General, to discuss pressing political and security issues impacting the broader Asia-Pacific region.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office, Dar will present Pakistan’s stance on key regional and global developments, while emphasizing the country’s longstanding support for peaceful conflict resolution, multilateral engagement, and regional stability.

The forum’s agenda will revolve around promoting constructive dialogue, deepening security cooperation, and collectively addressing evolving challenges, including rising geopolitical tensions and emerging non-traditional security threats.

In addition to the plenary session, the deputy prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his Malaysian counterpart and other foreign ministers attending the ARF. These sideline engagements are expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic, trade, and strategic ties.

Dar will also take time during his Kuala Lumpur visit to meet with members of the Pakistani community in Malaysia, continuing his efforts to engage the diaspora and acknowledge their contributions to national development and Pakistan’s international image.

Established in 1994, the ASEAN Regional Forum has become the leading multilateral platform for political-security dialogue in the Asia-Pacific. Pakistan has been an active member, using the forum to highlight its regional vision and pursue opportunities for meaningful international cooperation.
