ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the defence and sanctity of Islam’s holiest cities, declaring that the country “will always stand as a guardian of Makkah and Madinah.”
Speaking at a luncheon held in honour of a visiting Saudi delegation, the prime minister said that the deep spiritual connection all Muslims share with the holy sites binds Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in an unbreakable bond of faith and brotherhood.
“Pakistan will always be the protector of Makkah and Madinah. Every Muslim is ready to sacrifice their life for the defence of these sacred places,” Shehbaz stated passionately, underscoring the emotional and religious devotion attached to the two cities.
Referring to the recently signed Pakistan-Saudi defence agreement, the premier described it as more than a strategic partnership calling it “a reflection of shared faith, trust, and friendship.” He noted that the pact would help strengthen regional stability and reinforce the already time-tested ties between Islamabad and Riyadh.
“Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have stood by each other through every trial. This new agreement will further deepen our cooperation and safeguard mutual interests,” the prime minister remarked, expressing confidence in the growing partnership.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the vast potential for expanding cooperation beyond defence, pointing to trade, investment, research, and technology as key areas of mutual growth. “Together, we can transform our shared aspirations into tangible achievements,” he said, encouraging greater collaboration between Pakistani and Saudi enterprises.
The premier appreciated the active participation of Saudi investors in Pakistan’s energy and infrastructure sectors, calling it a positive sign for regional economic integration and long-term prosperity.
Addressing the gathering, Prince Mansour bin Muhammad Al Saud, who led the Saudi delegation, said their visit aimed to attend the Pakistan-Saudi Joint Business Council meeting and explore new investment opportunities. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s strong regard for its relationship with Pakistan and assured that the Kingdom’s business community was eager to expand its presence in the country.
The Saudi prince further noted that both nations would continue exploring fresh avenues of cooperation under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Pakistan’s evolving investment policy framework.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share enduring cultural, religious, and defence ties. Over the decades, both nations have consistently reaffirmed their commitment to each other’s sovereignty and to promoting peace and stability across the region.
