Pakistan Committed to Regional Peace, Says Army Chief During Key Visit to Washington

WASHINGTON: On a landmark visit to the United States, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a responsible and proactive role in reducing regional tensions and promoting global peace.

In a candid and wide-ranging interaction held in Washington, the army chief met with a host of senior scholars, policy experts, think tank representatives, and international media figures. The session offered a rare opportunity to hear Pakistan’s strategic outlook directly from its top military leader, with particular focus on regional security, terrorism, and future avenues for international cooperation.

According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions were frank and open — a platform to present Pakistan’s principled stance on major regional and global issues.

“Pakistan has always stood for peace and dialogue,” said Field Marshal Munir, while addressing the gathering. “Our commitment to a rules-based international order remains unwavering, and we believe in building bridges, not walls.”

Reflecting on the Fight Against Terrorism

The army chief delved into Pakistan’s deep-rooted experience in counter-terrorism, referencing operations like Maarka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He called out the negative role of certain regional actors who continue to use terrorism as a weapon of hybrid warfare.

“Pakistan has paid a steep price — both in lives and economically — in the global war on terror,” he said. “But our resolve remains unshaken. We stood at the front lines when few were willing to.”

Potential Beyond the Battlefield

Beyond security issues, Field Marshal Munir also highlighted Pakistan’s untapped potential in sectors like information technology, encouraging international partners to collaborate with Pakistan for shared growth.

He invited global investors to explore partnerships in innovation and technology, saying, “Our youth, our talent, and our resources make us a country of vast potential — we just need the world to see it.”

A Balanced Voice in an Unbalanced World

During the discussion, the army chief emphasized Pakistan’s approach to global conflicts — one rooted in dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law. He stated that Pakistan’s foreign policy seeks cooperation over confrontation and peace over provocation.

The conversation also touched on the longstanding Pakistan-U.S. relationship, where COAS Munir spoke of areas where the two countries have historically aligned — especially on counter-terrorism and regional security.

“There is room to expand this relationship beyond the traditional lens,” he noted, “towards a more broad-based, strategic, and economic partnership founded on mutual respect.”

A Step Toward Strategic Understanding

Participants at the session appreciated the clarity and openness of the army chief’s remarks, recognizing the need for stronger communication between Pakistan and the United States.

Observers noted that the tone of the interaction was one of mutual understanding and constructive engagement — a signal of Pakistan’s commitment to transparent diplomacy and meaningful international dialogue.

The session was widely seen as a positive development in renewing the strategic conversation between Islamabad and Washington, at a time when the world is increasingly in need of calm voices and steady hands.
