No Heavy Rain Expected in Karachi on August 27

KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has ruled out the chances of heavy rainfall in Karachi on August 27, forecasting only light showers, drizzle, or scattered rain in parts of the city. Officials clarified that the system previously expected to strengthen over Sindh has now lost momentum.

Explaining the development, the PMD noted that a tropical storm currently active near Vietnam and Laos in the Pacific Ocean is drawing moisture away from the Bay of Bengal. “Whenever the Pacific becomes meteorologically active, it reduces weather activity over the Bay of Bengal,” the department said. This diversion has significantly weakened the system that was anticipated to affect Karachi and rural Sindh around August 27.

On Monday, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6°C with humidity levels reaching 69 percent, making conditions uncomfortably sticky. In contrast, Dadu emerged as the hottest spot in Sindh, where the mercury climbed to 38.5°C.
