Street crimes are getting worse at night on Karachi’s built Shahrah-e-Bhutto (Malir Expressway). Gangs of armed thieves block the highway by putting logs or other objects in the way to force cars to stop and rob drivers at gunpoint.
In a recent incident, robbers stopped a car and tried to rob the driver.
The citizen used his licensed pistol to shoot at the criminals and stopped their robbery attempt. The suspects fled the scene. Malir district police were notified, but they arrived several hours later.
A video from the citizen who avoided the robbery has been shared. He explained that armed robbers blocked the road with logs and other obstacles to trap him.
He added that once drivers stop, the armed thieves come out and take their mobile phones, money, and other belongings.
He asked law enforcement to patrol Shahrah-e-Bhutto more often. He also warned people to avoid driving on this road at night. The police are trying to get in touch with him.
The police stated that development work continues at the reported crime scene. They suspect the criminals might be from nearby neighborhoods. They also increased patrolling in the area.
