Karachi – July 25, 2025
In a significant breakthrough, Malir City police have arrested a man accused of robbing the home of a Chinese national in Clifton, Karachi. The suspect, identified as Fayaz, allegedly carried out the crime in collaboration with his wife, Sonia, who remains on the run.
According to SSP Malir Dr. Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, the incident occurred in October 2024 in Clifton Block 4, within the jurisdiction of Boat Basin Police Station. The foreign victim, Zou Bao Sheng, had employed Sonia as a domestic worker—a job she allegedly used to gather information about the household’s valuables and routines.
Using this inside knowledge, Sonia and Fayaz executed a heist that resulted in the theft of over Rs3 million in cash and gold jewellery, before the couple disappeared without a trace.
The case remained cold for months until investigators tracked Fayaz to Malir City. Acting on intelligence, police launched a targeted operation and took him into custody earlier this week. During interrogation, Fayaz confessed that he and Sonia had adopted a pattern—frequently altering their appearances, targeting affluent homes where Sonia would be hired as a housemaid, and then vanishing to different regions after each robbery.
“He had been hiding in plain sight,” said SSP Pirzada. “But our team remained vigilant. Now, we are intensifying efforts to capture Sonia.”
A First Information Report (FIR) had already been lodged by Boat Basin police on the complaint of the foreign national. Raids are currently underway in multiple locations suspected of being Sonia’s hideouts.
Street Justice: Robbers Beaten After Failed Biryani Shop Heist
What started as an ordinary evening in Gulshan-e-Hadeed quickly spiraled into chaos and street justice, as two suspected robbers were brutally beaten by an angry crowd after attempting to rob a local biryani shop.
According to eyewitnesses, the two armed men stormed the eatery and opened fire in a bid to intimidate staff and customers. Tragically, a passerby was hit during the indiscriminate shooting. But before panic could fully take hold, a brave civilian—armed with a licensed pistol—returned fire, injuring one of the robbers on the spot.
As the suspects, identified as Ghulam Yaseen and Mukhtiar, tried to flee, furious citizens overpowered them, dragged them into the street, and subjected them to a public beating before handing them over to police.
Authorities recovered two weapons and a motorcycle from the suspects. A formal investigation has been launched to determine whether the duo is connected to other robberies in the area.
“This kind of street justice, while understandable in moments of rage, is not something we condone,” a police official said. “But we are grateful for the civilian who acted quickly to prevent greater harm.”
Both incidents paint a stark picture of urban crime in Karachi — where desperation, bold criminal tactics, and community frustration collide almost daily. As police continue to investigate, citizens are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
