Magsi Development Project: Major Gas Field in Balochistan Comes Online

ISLAMABAD – The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the successful completion of the Magsi Development Project, one of Balochistan’s key gas fields, which is now contributing 14 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.

According to company officials, the project was executed on a fast-track basis following the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In addition to gas output, the field is producing around 45 barrels of condensate daily. The newly extracted gas has already been integrated into the main pipeline system of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGCL), ensuring supply to domestic and industrial consumers.

The project was launched after the government approved a special incentive package in February 2024. OGDCL, as the operator, holds a 56 percent stake in the venture, while Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) own 24 percent and 20 percent shares respectively.

Beyond exploration and production, OGDCL has also rolled out several social welfare initiatives in Jhal Magsi under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. These include the construction of schools, healthcare centers, and 84 model houses for low-income and homeless families. Scholarships and technical training opportunities are being provided to local youth through Neotech, while free medical services such as ambulances, eye camps, and ration support have reached more than 800 households.

The company further disclosed that two Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants and several water tanks have been installed in the area to ensure access to safe drinking water.

Officials emphasized that such development projects not only strengthen Pakistan’s energy security but also bring tangible benefits to local communities, helping to uplift one of Balochistan’s less-developed regions.
