KARACHI – August 4, 2025:
In a vibrant display of civic pride and national spirit, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) marked a significant day for Karachi on Sunday, inaugurating key development projects and hosting a large-scale women’s motorbike rally as part of the Independence Day celebrations across Sindh.
The spotlight of the day was the formal opening of the Malir Union Football Stadium in Lyari a long-awaited facility for one of Karachi’s most sports-enthusiastic communities. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sindh’s Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani emphasized the PPP’s vision for inclusive urban growth.
“We’re not only focused on rural upliftment,” Ghani said, “but are equally committed to transforming urban centres like Karachi. Projects worth billions are underway across the city and are on track to be completed within this financial year.”
Ghani added that alongside the stadium, multiple community centres and infrastructure initiatives have been launched in Malir part of the government’s broader push to improve public amenities and engage youth in healthy activities.
Earlier in the morning, another energetic scene unfolded as hundreds of women bikers gathered at the historic Quaid-e-Azam House to take part in a 29-kilometre women’s motorbike rally, culminating at the iconic Chaukhandi Tombs.
Flagged off jointly by Minister Saeed Ghani and Sindh’s Minister for Tourism and Culture, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, the rally was more than just a ride — it was a powerful statement on women’s empowerment, unity, and their growing presence in public life.
“This rally is not just a celebration of Independence Day,” said Minister Shah. “It’s a tribute to the legacy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. A symbol of courage and leadership for women in Pakistan. Today, that spirit is being carried forward by Aseefa Bhutto.”
The sight of women riding together through the heart of Karachi drew cheers from onlookers and created a festive atmosphere along the route. Participants waved flags, wore cultural attire, and rode with confidence turning heads and challenging stereotypes in the process.
Together, the stadium inauguration and women’s rally reflected the PPP’s attempt to blend development with social progress, using public events to not only showcase infrastructure, but also foster civic pride and gender inclusion in Pakistan’s largest city.
