Largest and Brightest Supermoon to Illuminate Pakistan’s Sky Tonight

Skywatchers across Pakistan are in for a celestial spectacle tonight as the year’s largest and brightest supermoon, known as the Beaver Moon, is set to light up the night sky in all its glory.

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the dazzling lunar display will begin at 6:19 p.m. (PST) and remain visible throughout the night. Experts say this particular supermoon will appear nearly 8% larger and 16% brighter than a typical full moon, as it reaches its closest point to Earth approximately 356,980 kilometers away.

Astronomers explain that a supermoon occurs when the moon’s full phase coincides with its perigee, the point in its orbit where it comes closest to our planet. Tonight’s event marks the second in a rare trio of consecutive supermoons appearing in October, November, and December 2025. While supermoons are not uncommon, only a few each year shine with such brilliance and proximity, making this one a rare delight for astronomy lovers.

The term “Beaver Moon” traces back to old Native American and European traditions, referring to the time when beavers busied themselves preparing for the harsh winter ahead. Today, the name serves as a poetic reminder of the natural rhythms that continue to connect humans to the universe around them.

SUPARCO has encouraged citizens to view the spectacle with the naked eye or through binoculars for a clearer look at the moon’s features including its craters, ridges, and vast plains.

As the sun sets and the silvery glow rises over Pakistan’s skyline, tonight promises to offer one of the most breathtaking astronomical sights of 2025 a perfect opportunity to pause, look up, and marvel at the beauty of the cosmos.
