Karachi to Introduce E-Challan System from October 1

KARACHI: Starting October 1, car and motorcycle owners in the city will need to be extra cautious, as the long-awaited electronic challaning (e-challan) system is set to be launched.

Unlike the traditional practice of manual ticketing by traffic police officers, the new system will automatically detect and record traffic violations through advanced cameras and monitoring technology. Challans will then be issued electronically.

In preparation, Karachi’s traffic police have rolled out an awareness campaign along major roads and highways to familiarize citizens with the new system. Many residents have expressed support for the initiative, noting that it will help curb bribery and remove the element of discrimination from traffic enforcement.

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah emphasized that the initiative’s primary purpose is not to penalize drivers, but to ensure greater compliance with road safety laws. “For months, we’ve been informing the public through media and social media platforms. The aim is to instill discipline among drivers,” he explained.

He added that with the introduction of this modern digital mechanism, traffic violations will be addressed in a transparent and uniform manner, ultimately improving the overall flow of traffic across Karachi.
