KARACHI – August 15, 2025:
A large-scale water theft operation has come to light in Karachi, with residents alleging that corrupt officials within the Water Board are actively involved in the scheme.
According to local sources, water meant for households in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and nearby neighborhoods is being diverted and sold for profit. Residents claim that in Azeem Khan Goth, a main government pipeline has been deliberately punctured, allowing water to be siphoned through an illegal connection to a nearby factory.
The theft, they say, is being carried out under the pretext of extracting subsoil water, with clandestine pipelines laid beneath the ground. Villagers report that these lines are often installed during the night, and some have recorded videos showing excavation work taking place after dark.
Police officials acknowledge that no work on government water lines can be undertaken without notifying the Water Board. They have assured that if a formal written complaint is submitted, strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
Residents, however, remain skeptical, insisting that such large-scale operations could not happen without the knowledge or direct involvement of the very authorities meant to safeguard the city’s water supply.
