ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), requesting the formation of a medical board from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) to oversee his monthly health check-ups. The petition raises alarm over his recent weight loss and fears of potential underlying illnesses.
Filed on Monday through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the plea asks the court to order an immediate medical examination within three days as interim relief. It further demands that the medical reports be shared with both the court and Imran’s family until a final decision is made.
The application highlights that Imran Khan’s health has deteriorated during his incarceration, with a significant drop in weight that has caused serious concern. According to K-P Advocate General Shah Faisal, Imran’s two sisters, who were allowed a rare visit, confirmed his noticeable weight loss and worry about his wellbeing.
Speaking to Express News, Faisal said, “Weight loss is often a sign of some underlying disease. That is why the chief minister instructed the filing of this petition in the IHC to establish a team of doctors from Shaukat Khanum Hospital to carry out examinations, diagnosis, and treatment as necessary. This is a matter of basic human rights.”
The plea also notes that SKMCH already possesses Imran Khan’s full medical records, making the hospital the best-equipped institution to monitor his condition. The petition urges the court to permit monthly check-ups and any required tests by the SKMCH medical team, ensuring continuous health care during his detention.
At 72 years old, the former leader’s supporters and legal team emphasize the urgency of these medical provisions, stressing the importance of routine evaluations given his declining health.
