Islamabad — In a major opportunity for aspiring scholars, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has opened applications for fully-funded PhD scholarships in the United States under the US–Pakistan Knowledge Corridor Project. The program aims to give talented Pakistani students the chance to study at some of the world’s leading universities, gaining exposure to advanced research, innovation, and global academic standards.
Strengthening Educational Links Between Pakistan and the US
The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Pakistan and the United States designed to deepen academic ties and enhance Pakistan’s higher education sector. By sending scholars abroad for doctoral studies, the program seeks to nurture a new generation of highly skilled researchers, educators, and professionals who can contribute to Pakistan’s knowledge economy upon their return.
An HEC official emphasized that the project is “an investment in Pakistan’s intellectual capital,” adding that returning scholars are expected to play a key role in universities, research institutions, and public policy development.
Comprehensive Financial Support for Scholars
The scholarship offers extensive financial coverage for selected candidates. Students admitted to top 50 globally ranked universities will receive full funding, including tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, and health insurance.
Those enrolling in universities ranked between 51 and 300 will receive up to US$12,000 annually toward tuition, along with a stipend and medical coverage.
The program also provides assistance for visa processing and university placement, making it easier for students to focus on their academic goals rather than logistical hurdles.
Application Timeline and Procedure
HEC has announced two admission cycles for 2026.
- Spring/Summer 2026 session: Deadline — November 15, 2025
- Fall 2026 session: Deadline — April 30, 2026
Applicants are required to apply through HEC’s official online portal at scholarship.hec.gov.pk and must meet the academic and English proficiency requirements set by participating US universities.
A Step Toward Academic Empowerment
The US–Pakistan Knowledge Corridor Project represents one of the most ambitious education initiatives undertaken by HEC in recent years. It underscores a long-term vision of empowering Pakistan’s youth with international exposure and equipping them with the skills needed to drive innovation and research excellence at home.
By bridging the gap between Pakistani talent and world-class institutions, the program not only strengthens bilateral academic relations but also paves the way for a more competitive and research-driven Pakistan.
