Five Dead in Karachi Road Accidents, Including Four Members of One Family

Karachi witnessed another tragic day on its roads as five people, including four members of the same family, lost their lives in two separate accidents on Tuesday, rescue officials confirmed.

According to DIG South Syed Asad Raza, the first accident took place around 9am on Hawkesbay Road in the Mauripur area, when a speeding car carrying a family crashed into a wall next to a nullah. Initial investigations suggest the family was returning from Hawkesbay beach when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Those killed in the accident include a man and a woman, identified as Yousuf and Khalida, along with their daughters, six-year-old Zainab and ten-year-old Ayesha. Six other family members were injured in the crash and shifted to Civil Hospital, where three of them remain in critical condition, according to Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed.

In a separate incident near the New Sabzi Mandi on Super Highway, a collision between a trailer and a truck claimed the life of 39-year-old Gaya Chand. Three others sustained injuries and were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, rescue officials said.

Karachi has seen a sharp rise in fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles such as dumpers and water tankers. Hospital data reveals that nearly 500 people were killed and over 4,800 injured in road accidents across the city in 2024 alone.

Earlier incidents this month included a dumper overturning on a 4×4 vehicle on Rashid Minhas Road on June 19, killing a woman and a five-year-old girl. On June 11, a motorcyclist lost his life while his wife was injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on Super Highway. The same day, two boys were killed when a water tanker ran over them near Abdullah College in North Nazimabad.

These recurring tragedies highlight the urgent need for stricter traffic regulation and enforcement to prevent further loss of innocent lives on Karachi’s roads.
