Field Marshal Asim Munir Applauds Saima Saleem, Reaffirms Support for Differently-Abled Pakistanis

WASHINGTON: In a moment filled with respect and inspiration, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with Saima Saleem, a distinguished member of Pakistan’s delegation to the United Nations, whose achievements have become a source of national pride.

What made this meeting special wasn’t just diplomacy — it was the recognition of sheer resilience. Saima Saleem, despite being visually impaired, has carved out an impressive career in international diplomacy through her intelligence, dedication, and unwavering resolve.

According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir warmly acknowledged Saima’s contributions and lauded her for representing Pakistan with excellence on global platforms.

“Your story is one of strength, dignity, and service,” the COAS told her during the meeting. “You are an inspiration for every Pakistani — especially those who face challenges, yet refuse to be defined by them.”

He praised her exceptional work at the United Nations, where she has become a strong and consistent voice for Pakistan on key regional and global issues. Saima Saleem, known not only for her diplomatic acumen but also for her integrity and calm under pressure, briefed the army chief on her current engagements at the UN.

Among the issues discussed was the ongoing threat of state-sponsored terrorism in the region — particularly India’s destabilising role, which Pakistan continues to raise at international forums. The COAS commended Saima for articulating Pakistan’s concerns on such a critical front with clarity and conviction.

Beyond politics and policy, the meeting took a personal turn when Saima shared her literary work with Field Marshal Munir — a reminder that her talents go beyond diplomacy. Her writing, like her public service, reflects deep thought and emotional intelligence.

The COAS used the opportunity to reaffirm the Pakistan Army’s commitment to empowering differently-abled individuals, ensuring they are supported and given every opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society.

“Our country is full of extraordinary people,” he noted, “and it is our responsibility to ensure that every citizen — regardless of their physical abilities — is given a chance to shine.”

The meeting served as a poignant reminder that disability is not a limitation, and that determination, talent, and heart are what truly shape a person’s legacy.
