Ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Released After Harsh Detention by Israeli Forces

AMMAN / ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, who was detained by Israeli forces while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, has been released after several days in custody.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the development, saying the former senator is now at the Pakistani Embassy in Amman, Jordan, and is in good health. “His health is good and his spirits are high,” Dar said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), adding that the embassy is extending full support for Mushtaq Ahmed’s safe return to Pakistan. He also expressed gratitude to the “friendly countries” whose diplomatic efforts helped secure the release.

‘Worst Torture’ During Detention

In a video message shared after his release, Mushtaq Ahmed described the conditions he faced in Israeli custody as “the worst torture.” He said detainees were held in overcrowded and unhygienic facilities where even clean drinking water was unavailable.

“I have reached Jordan along with 150 others after being released,” he said. “We were imprisoned simply for carrying food and aid for Gaza. But despite everything, our spirit and determination remain unbroken.”

The former senator, visibly exhausted but resolute, said that while the group endured harsh treatment, their resolve to stand with the people of Gaza had only strengthened.

‘Our Struggle Will Continue Until Gaza’s Liberation’

Mushtaq Ahmed vowed to continue advocating for the Palestinian cause, saying that the suffering he witnessed has reinforced his commitment to humanitarian action.
“Our struggle will continue until Gaza’s liberation,” he declared. “We may have faced detention and torture, but we will not abandon this cause.”

He confirmed plans to return to Pakistan soon, promising to share more details about his experience and the conditions faced by other detainees.

Pakistan Welcomes His Release

Following the news, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s support for humanitarian missions to Gaza and expressed relief at Mushtaq Ahmed’s safe release.
“The embassy will provide all possible assistance for his return home,” he stated, thanking nations that stepped forward diplomatically to ensure his freedom.

The release of Mushtaq Ahmed comes amid growing global concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where aid convoys continue to face restrictions amid escalating hostilities.
