Ankara – August 1, 2025:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has praised recent moves by several European nations to officially recognize the State of Palestine, calling them “valuable steps in the right direction” and urging the international community to intensify pressure on Israel.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ankara, President Erdoğan welcomed the shift in policy by countries such as France, Britain, Canada, and Portugal, describing their actions as a significant development in the ongoing struggle for Palestinian statehood.
“Every nation that stands up for Palestinian rights adds strength to a just cause,” he said. “The humanitarian stance of these European countries is commendable. In the coming days, we will be stepping up diplomatic pressure on Israel to bring an end to its aggression.”
Erdoğan did not hold back in his condemnation of the situation in Gaza, where humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate. “To remain silent while children starve is nothing short of criminal,” he stated. “Targeting civilians who are simply begging for food is inhumane. It is the moral duty of the international community to act — and act now.”
In a related development, Singapore has also signaled its openness to recognizing a Palestinian state, with officials confirming the country is “ready in principle” to support Palestinian statehood.
Meanwhile, momentum continues to build elsewhere. French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Canadian leader Mark Carney have all announced that their governments intend to formally recognize Palestine in September.
However, not all global powers are aligned. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, in response to the UK’s announcement, claimed that he and Starmer did not discuss the issue of Palestinian statehood during their recent meeting. “Our meeting was cordial,” Trump said, “but there was no conversation about Palestine.”
Trump added that the United States would not join the wave of recognitions. “We’ve made it clear — we’re talking directly to Israel,” he said. Referring to the worsening food crisis in Gaza, Trump mentioned upcoming discussions with the Israeli government aimed at ensuring fair distribution of aid. “We are working to make sure food is delivered properly, to those who need it most.”
As diplomatic positions harden on both sides, the coming weeks could prove critical for the future of Palestinian statehood — and for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
