Dubai’s Burj Khalifa Shines in Green to Mark Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day

DUBAI – Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day celebrations reached a spectacular high in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday night, as the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, lit up in the vibrant green and white of the Pakistani flag.

Thousands of spectators, including a large number of Pakistani expatriates, gathered around the iconic tower to witness the breathtaking moment. As the flag’s colors illuminated the skyline, the air filled with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad”, while the melody of the national anthem echoed across Downtown Dubai, creating an atmosphere of pride and nostalgia.

Families came dressed for the occasion—children in flag-colored outfits, women wearing green and white bangles, and men waving the crescent-and-star flag high. The celebration didn’t end with the lighting; the night sky soon erupted into a dazzling fireworks display, adding to the patriotic fervor.

For many in attendance, the occasion carried deep emotional weight. “Freedom is a blessing you understand best when you live away from home,” one attendee remarked. The unity, discipline, and affection displayed by the Pakistani community in Dubai reflected a shared sentiment—that Pakistan is not just a place on the map, but a bond of the heart, a part of their identity, and a light that travels wherever they go.

Beyond Dubai, other landmarks also joined in the tribute. In Turkey, the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul was illuminated in the colors of the Pakistani flag, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.
