Decision to Build New Airport in Faisalabad

KARACHI, August 23, 2025: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced plans to construct a new airport in Faisalabad, inviting consultancy firms to submit proposals for the project’s design, feasibility study, and master plan. Interested companies have been asked to file their applications by October 12, 2025.

The move follows the federal government’s broader aviation expansion strategy. Earlier in April this year, Islamabad approved the establishment of an international airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), a longstanding demand of overseas Pakistanis.

The proposal gained momentum after a group of British parliamentarians of Kashmiri origin wrote a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging him to prioritize the project. Their appeal reflected the sentiments of the Pakistani diaspora, particularly those who frequently travel between the UK and AJK.

Responding to these requests, the PAA, under instructions from the federal government, has already issued advertisements seeking consultancy services for the AJK project. The Faisalabad airport initiative is being viewed in the same light an effort to modernize Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure while addressing the growing needs of travelers at home and abroad.
