LAHORE — Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed full support for setting up a Google Chromebooks manufacturing factory in Punjab, a move aimed at advancing technology-driven education and strengthening the province’s local IT infrastructure.
The Chief Minister made the announcement during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Google for Education and Tech Valley, led by Kevin Kalis, Global Director of Google for Education, and Umar Farooq, CEO of Tech Valley. The delegation briefed the CM on Google’s ongoing and upcoming educational technology projects in Pakistan.
According to details shared during the meeting, Google plans to introduce three new software solutions with its upcoming Chromebook devices including an Artificial Intelligence Toolkit, AI Gemini to support digital learning and creative exploration, and Read Along, a software designed to help students improve their English language skills. The Canva application will also be integrated to promote design thinking and creativity among learners.
The delegation informed the CM that over 2,000 public school teachers in Punjab have already been trained under Google for Education programs, with more training sessions in progress to further enhance teachers’ digital skills.
Praising the Punjab government’s focus on modern education, the Google delegation described Maryam Nawaz’s vision for technology-enabled learning as inspiring and forward-looking, especially her emphasis on empowering girls through IT education.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her government’s commitment to integrating information technology into the education system, stressing that transforming Punjab into an Artificial Intelligence hub remains a top priority.
“We are committed to making information technology an essential part of education,” she said, adding that the establishment of a Chromebook manufacturing facility will not only boost Punjab’s digital infrastructure but also help equip students with future-ready skills.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation of complete facilitation and support from the Punjab government for the proposed Chromebook factory project. She also commended Google for Education’s ongoing collaboration in promoting IT literacy and digital inclusion across Punjab’s public schools.
