Billionaire Plans $10 Million Titanic Dive, Two Years After OceanGate Tragedy

Two years after the catastrophic OceanGate submersible accident that claimed five lives, a billionaire is reportedly preparing for a daring expedition to the wreck of the Titanic.

The ill-fated Titan submersible imploded during a 2023 dive, killing all five passengers on board, including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British explorer Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, and veteran French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet. The disaster, which unfolded 12,500 feet beneath the North Atlantic, sparked global outrage and raised serious concerns about the safety of private deep-sea tourism.

Yet, despite the tragedy, fascination with the Titanic has not diminished. According to reports cited by the New York Post, an unnamed billionaire has committed to a $10 million dive to the wreck site. The identity of the individual has not been disclosed, though sources suggest it is a high-profile figure “whose name people would instantly recognize.”

“This will be the first return to the Titanic since the OceanGate disaster,” one source revealed, noting that the announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

More than a century after the Titanic’s sinking in 1912, its story continues to captivate the world. While experts warn that deep-sea expeditions carry enormous risks, the upcoming mission highlights how the allure of history’s most famous shipwreck remains irresistible even in the shadow of tragedy.
