At UN, Israel Declares It ‘Will Not Stop’ Strikes on Iran as Fears of Wider War Grow

UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK – June 20, 2025: Tensions reached new heights at the UN Security Council on Friday as Israel firmly declared it would press forward with military action against Iran, despite growing international alarm and fears of a broader regional conflict.

Speaking during a high-stakes session at UN headquarters, Israel’s Ambassador Danny Danon delivered a forceful message to the council and the world: “We will not stop. Not until Iran’s nuclear threat is dismantled. Not until its war machine is disarmed. Not until our people — and yours — are safe.”

His words came just moments after Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani made a direct appeal to the council, accusing Israel of fueling chaos and calling for immediate international intervention.

“Israel has made it clear that these strikes will continue — for as many days as it takes,” Iravani said. “We are deeply concerned by credible reports that the United States may also be preparing to join this war. The Security Council must act before this escalates further.”

The meeting — held as Israeli warplanes continue bombing Iranian infrastructure, including suspected nuclear sites — also featured a video briefing by Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Grossi warned of growing risks to regional nuclear facilities and called for restraint on all sides.

Diplomats from multiple countries voiced alarm over the direction the conflict was taking, urging both Israel and Iran to pull back from the brink.

But for now, the message from both sides remains uncompromising — Israel insists it is acting in self-defense against an existential threat, while Iran says it has every right to defend its sovereignty.

As the Security Council debates, civilians across the Middle East brace for what many now fear could spiral into a full-scale regional war.
