ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem has been declared fully fit by his surgeon after recovering from a calf surgery earlier this year.
The 28-year-old underwent surgery on his right calf in July 2025 in Cambridge, England, which forced him out of the Diamond League circuit. His doctor, Dr. Asad Abbas, confirmed that his rehab had gone smoothly and he was confident in Arshad’s ability to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo starting September 13.
“Arshad has fully recovered and is ready to compete at the highest level,” Dr. Abbas said. “I am confident he can perform even better than he did in Paris.”
The rivalry between Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and India’s Neeraj Chopra will be one of the most anticipated highlights of the championship. The two last clashed at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where Chopra won gold with a throw of 88.17m, while Nadeem secured silver, just 0.35m short.
Arshad became a household name after his record-breaking throw of 92.97m at the Paris Olympics, which earned him Pakistan’s first Olympic gold in 32 years. The last gold came in hockey at the 1992 Los Angeles Olympics.
Now, with full fitness restored, he aims to recreate history in Tokyo.
