ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is standing with the global community today to mark the International Day of Family Remittances. This day recognizes the essential role of migrant workers who support countless families and promote progress in their home nations through their remittances earned with hard work.
On International Day of Family Remittances, PM Shehbaz shared his thoughts. He stated, “Remittances from our overseas Pakistanis have always been a cornerstone of our national economy. With over 9 million of our people living abroad in regions like the Gulf, Europe, North America, and more. Our diaspora stays connected to their roots. Their financial contributions not only show love and duty towards their families but also act as a strong pillar that supports Pakistan’s economic strength.”
Today, we honor our global Pakistani community with great respect. Their remittances symbolize a lasting connection with their homeland—a bond built on trust, dedication, and generational responsibility.
Pakistan’s government keeps working hard to bring in foreign investment and grow exports to build a stable economy over time. Remittances have been essential in boosting the country’s foreign exchange reserves along this path.
This fiscal year, Pakistanis living abroad sent home $34.9 billion, which is a record. That’s a rise of 28.8% compared to last year. In May 2025 alone, remittances reached $3.7 billion showing a 13.7% rise from May last year. These numbers highlight not just our diaspora’s dedication and effort but also their increasing trust in the government’s economic strategies.
This trust strengthens our determination to put in more effort to revive and grow our economy.
We must come together and commit to working with our diaspora, development partners, and every key player to tackle economic challenges and create a new chapter of investment, growth, and progress for our nation.
