Supermoon to Light Up Pakistan’s Skies on October 7

ISLAMABAD — Sky gazers in Pakistan are in for a treat next week as the first Supermoon of 2025 is set to appear on October 7, casting a spectacular glow across the night sky.

A Supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the point in its orbit where it is closest to Earth, making it look noticeably larger and brighter than usual.

According to astronomers, this Supermoon will be just 224,599 miles away from Earth, appearing nearly 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter compared to a typical full moon. It will also be the closest Supermoon since November 2024, adding to its significance as one of the year’s most anticipated astronomical events.

This October sighting will be followed by two more Supermoons in November (5th) and December (5th), while another is scheduled for January 2026, though outside the current calendar year. Experts say three to four Supermoons typically occur annually, with the November 2025 Supermoon expected to be the brightest of them all, coming within 221,817 miles of Earth.

What makes Supermoons especially captivating is not just their size and brightness but also the dramatic effect when the moon rises near the horizon, appearing almost surreal against the backdrop of the landscape.

For sky watchers in Pakistan, October 7 promises to be a night worth marking on the calendar.
