KARACHI — Two motorcyclists lost their lives and another was injured in separate accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi on Sunday, police reported.
The first incident occurred in Memon Goth, Malir, near Solangi Stop, where a truck struck two motorcycles. One man, Waqas Buriro, was killed on the spot, while Abdul Wahid Baksh sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The truck driver fled the scene, but the vehicle has been impounded and authorities are actively searching for the driver.
In a separate accident on the Super Highway near Zakaria Goth, another motorcyclist, identified as Shahid, was killed after being hit by a dumper. Police have arrested the driver, Fazal, and impounded the dumper involved in the crash.
Authorities have taken measures to curb accidents involving dumpers. On the orders of the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic (DIG Traffic), trackers have been installed in 606 dumpers operating in Karachi. The All Dumper Truck Owners Association (ADTOA) Karachi Sindh handed over control of the trackers to the IT branch at the DIG Traffic office.
According to the regulations, these dumpers are allowed to operate within Karachi at night. During daytime, they can run only in Korangi, New Karachi Industrial Area, and the SITE area. Additionally, dumpers are permitted to operate at Bin Qasim Port and Karachi Port.
