KARACHI — Winter is expected to tighten its grip on Karachi once again, as cold winds from Quetta are likely to sweep across the city starting tomorrow, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Sunday.
According to the Met Office, residents should brace for colder nights, with temperatures projected to fall between 13°C and 15°C over the next 24 hours. Officials noted that continental air has strengthened over large parts of the country, setting the stage for a more pronounced winter spell in the southern port city.
In its wider forecast, the PMD said that cold and dry conditions are expected across most regions on Monday, while upper mountainous areas will continue to experience severe cold. The department also warned that fog is likely to thicken gradually in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), potentially hampering travel during early morning and late-night hours.
The Met Office added that both daytime and nighttime temperatures in northern regions are expected to fall further over the coming days as winter intensifies.
A snapshot of the past 24 hours shows that much of the country remained cold and dry, with hilly areas experiencing particularly harsh conditions. Several districts of Punjab and KP reported smog along with patches of fog, reducing visibility.
Some of the lowest temperatures recorded on Sunday included Skardu and Leh at -8°C, Gilgit at -6°C, Quetta at -4°C, and -3°C in Babusar, Gupis and Astore. Kalat and Dir reported lows of -2°C.
