NAB Recovers Rs547bn in First Half of 2025

Record-breaking Rs456bn retrieved in just three months; Rs532bn worth of assets handed over to ministries, departments

ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reported unprecedented recoveries in the first six months of 2025, securing a total of Rs547.31 billion, according to a mid-year performance report released on Sunday.

The anti-graft watchdog achieved a staggering Rs456.3 billion in recoveries between April and June alone — a sharp jump from the Rs91 billion recorded in the first quarter. The bulk of these recoveries, valued at Rs532.33 billion in movable and immovable properties, has already been transferred to various federal and provincial ministries, government departments, and financial institutions.

Over the same period, NAB returned funds to 12,611 individuals defrauded in different scams, reaffirming its stated resolve to protect public money and hold corrupt elements accountable.

The bureau’s two-year performance paints an even bigger picture: since 2023, it has recovered assets worth Rs5,854.73 billion — more than seven times the Rs839 billion retrieved in the years before.

In addition to financial recoveries, NAB is working closely with provincial revenue departments to reclaim state assets held illegally. Early assessments suggest that encroached state land worth around Rs5 trillion remains under unlawful occupation, which the bureau says it will move to recover.

NAB’s leadership hailed the mid-year figures as evidence of its “unwavering commitment” to fight corruption and return stolen resources to the nation. The report underscores that these recoveries are not only breaking records but also reshaping expectations of accountability in Pakistan.
