ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to the United States next week to participate in a series of high-level engagements marking Pakistan’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York, the Foreign Office confirmed on Sunday.
During his visit, Dar will chair multiple signature sessions at the UN headquarters, including a high-level open debate titled “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” The discussion aims to emphasise the importance of multilateral diplomacy and mediation in addressing global challenges and preventing conflicts.
Dar will also preside over the Security Council’s quarterly open debate on the “Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question,” reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and other unresolved international disputes.
In addition, the deputy prime minister is scheduled to chair a special UNSC briefing focused on enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), reflecting Pakistan’s broader diplomatic initiative to strengthen collaboration between multilateral platforms in pursuit of global peace.
To express Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Palestine, Dar will participate in a high-level conference on the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” The event is expected to amplify Islamabad’s call for an end to Israeli occupation and a just, durable solution to the decades-old conflict.
Apart from these multilateral engagements, Dar is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and senior UN officials in New York to discuss regional and global developments. Following his UN commitments, the deputy prime minister will travel to Washington for further diplomatic engagements, though detailed schedules for the second leg of his US visit are yet to be announced.
