Islamabad – July 2025
Significant legal movement has taken place in the high-profile £190 million case, as former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi, has formally requested an expedited hearing in the Islamabad High Court.
The plea, filed by Barrister Salman Safdar on behalf of the couple, calls on the court to schedule an early hearing for the pending applications seeking suspension of their sentences.
According to the petition, the trial court handed down the convictions on January 17, while the appeals were filed ten days later, on January 27. However, it wasn’t until nearly four months later—on May 15—that the first hearing on the suspension requests was held.
Since then, the petition alleges, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has repeatedly sought adjournments, delaying progress on the suspension pleas.
Imran Khan, through his counsel, argued that at the last hearing, the court had been specifically requested to schedule the case for an early hearing. Despite verbal assurances from the bench, the matter has yet to be prioritized.
The petition now urges the Islamabad High Court to take immediate action and issue an order for both applications to be scheduled for early hearing.
Legal analysts say the outcome of this plea could have major implications for the PTI founder and his wife, who are currently serving sentences related to the controversial settlement and transfer of funds in the £190 million case.
With political stakes running high and legal wrangling continuing, the case remains one of the most closely watched courtroom battles in recent memory.
