With the winter tourism season just around the corner, authorities in Murree have rolled out an expanded safety plan aimed at ensuring that visitors can enjoy the snowfall without facing the problems witnessed in past years.
The winter season — stretching from December 15 to February 25 — typically brings a surge of tourists, along with challenges such as traffic gridlocks, slippery roads, and overcrowding. Learning from previous incidents, the administration has put in place a detailed “snow plan” to improve both mobility and public safety.
As part of the initiative, 20 snow-clearing machines have been deployed on major routes to keep traffic moving smoothly. Additionally, 19 facilitation centres are being set up across the hill station to provide tourists with guidance, emergency support, and real-time updates.
A military contingent will remain on duty around the clock to monitor the situation and coordinate with NDMA, Rescue 1122, police, and Civil Defence teams. Officials say this combined effort will ensure a quick response to any weather-related emergency.
Traffic management remains a priority this year. Parking on main roads has been strictly prohibited, and entry into Murree will be regulated to prevent overcrowding. Hotels have also been instructed to follow fixed rates for accommodation, meals, and recreational activities to shield visitors from overcharging during peak days.
Tourists planning to travel to Murree have been urged to bring winter essentials such as warm clothing, blankets, snow chains, and basic supplies in case of delays caused by harsh weather.
Authorities say they are focusing heavily on crowd control, timely assistance, and dispute management to make the winter season safer and more organized. Their goal is to allow visitors to enjoy Murree’s snow-covered scenery without unnecessary risks.
With these measures in place, officials are hopeful that this year’s winter season will offer a smoother, safer, and more enjoyable experience for the thousands who flock to the popular hill station every year.
