KARACHI — The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Thursday announced that water supply to several parts of the city has been restored following the completion of repair work on a damaged 48-inch pipeline at the K-II pumping station.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, the repair operation began on Tuesday and continued non-stop for two days as teams worked round the clock to replace a faulty valve on the pipeline. During the maintenance process, three of the eleven pumps at the North East Pumping Station and one at the Dhabeji Pumping Station were temporarily shut down, disrupting water flow to multiple areas.
The suspension affected neighborhoods including Safoora Town, North Nazimabad, and Gulberg Town, while residents of Liaquatabad and Gulshan-e-Iqbal also experienced reduced water pressure.
Officials said that Karachi normally receives around 650 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, but the repair work caused a temporary shortfall of approximately 150 MGD. Despite the disruption, a supply of around 500 MGD continued through alternate lines to minimize the impact on the public.
The KWSC spokesperson confirmed that the damaged section has now been fully restored and normal water supply has resumed. The corporation also expressed appreciation for residents’ patience during the repair work, assuring that preventive measures are being taken to avoid such interruptions in the future.
