FBR Targets Social Media Show-offs in Crackdown on Tax Evaders

ISLAMABAD – September 20, 2025: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has begun compiling detailed records of individuals flaunting lavish lifestyles on social media, signaling a major crackdown on tax evasion.

According to official sources, the tax authority has gathered data on more than 100,000 individuals who openly display their wealth online. Beginning October 1, action will be initiated against those who showcase expensive possessions but fail to file their income tax returns.

The campaign, supported by lifestyle monitoring teams and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has already produced comprehensive lists of suspected non-filers. Authorities are particularly focused on individuals who post pictures and videos of luxury cars, motorcycles, yachts, bungalows, farmhouses, designer clothing, jewelry, and high-end watches.

“People spending millions on weddings, wearing suits worth $20,000, and flaunting a lifestyle far beyond their declared income will now be under strict scrutiny,” an FBR source revealed. Officials confirmed that expenditures on weddings, luxury travel, and even foreign credit card transactions have been tracked and matched against filed returns.

The move underscores FBR’s determination to widen the tax net and bring wealthy individuals into compliance. The deadline for filing returns remains September 30, with authorities making it clear that no extensions will be granted this year.
