WEB DESK: A massive fire broke out on Monday evening at a mattress warehouse near Valika Chowrangi in Karachi’s SITE industrial area, prompting an urgent response from rescue teams and fire brigade officials.
According to initial reports, thick clouds of smoke could be seen rising from the site as firefighters rushed to contain the blaze. Officials confirmed that at least seven fire tenders were deployed to battle the flames, which spread rapidly through the warehouse.
A spokesperson for the fire department said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but an investigation is underway to ascertain what triggered the incident. “Our teams are working tirelessly to bring the situation under control. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far,” the official added.
Incidents of industrial fires have become alarmingly frequent in Karachi, particularly in the SITE and Korangi industrial zones, where many factories operate without adequate fire safety measures. Experts warn that the lack of proper firefighting systems in warehouses and high-rise buildings continues to put both workers and nearby residents at serious risk.
Authorities have urged factory owners to strictly comply with safety standards to prevent such accidents in the future. Meanwhile, cooling efforts at the Valika Chowrangi warehouse were still underway at the time of reporting.
